“If anyone tells you that a certain person speaks ill of you, do not make excuses about what is said of you but answer, "He was ignorant of my other faults, else he would not have mentioned these alone.” ― Epictetus

9/8/2023

I went to see my VA counsellor this morning in preparation for my upcoming appointment with a VA psychiatrist.

As far as I can tell, I'm not crazy, just depressed. I'm probably on the spectrum, likely have a bit of PTSD, but these conditions represent advances in psychiatry. I've never been officially diagnosed because autism wasn't understood when I was a kid in the 50s and 60s, and PTSD didn't become a recognized effect of trauma until well after I was out of the Army.

I'd like to know just to satisfy my own curiosity. According to complete strangers with no known qualifications posting anonymously on the Internet, I might even be harboring other personalities. As if the one I'm aware of isn't enough bother.

I'm going to start using dates instead of post titles. It makes more sense for this style of blog.

I'm changing the name of my rev-jack blog to revjeber.com. I noticed I was using Reverend Jack and Reverend Jeber in different places. This could be confusing. And since the RevJack domain isn't available (last updated in 2008) I decided to default to the web name I've used for the last 20 years. Once the DNS gets set I'll set up the redirect.

My housemate's dog has stolen, hidden, and most likely chewed on my Apple TV remote and one other thing. That's the thanks I get for babysitting her for the weekend while her owner is out of town.

9/2/2023

I had planned on making this a daily practice, a form of meditation and self-reflection. But to be honest, so many of my days are repetitive and insignificant even to me.

So I guess I’ll just write when I have something to say, like the above.

I do have the house to myself for the weekend, and a kind friend gave me some herbal medication, so at least I’m relaxed and comfortable. I’ve got both dogs to look after, but so far they’re not giving me any problems. Noah does have to get his pup housebroken ASAP.

I’m trying to get the electronics in my room sorted out. I have a pair of Nest speakers I’d like to using, but I don’t really need them right now. I use a pair of 1st gen HomePods as my TV speakers and a pair of HomePod Minis as my computer speakers. I have a second pair of Minis in the bathroom so I can listen to podcasts while in the shower or shaving. Cable management used to be my strong suit, not so much these days.

Tomorrow’s Sunday, so I’ll be reading stoic or existential literature and enjoying another quiet day around the house.

Humans have a very difficult time accepting and dealing with our individual and collective insignificance to the universe.
